A contetious subject at best. We want you all to have an opportunity to make yourselves heard. In commenting please bear in mind the purpose of handicaps.
A good handicap system will reflect the level of play in relation to the competition. In and of itself a handicap is not an indicator of a person’s skill level. It is a reflection of that person’s level of skill in relation to the competition the player has met in given set of circumstances.
The main purpose of handicapping a division is to ensure that ANY team has a chance to win. If the handicap cannot overcome superior teams then it is not working properly.
The commonly used “ball count average” handicap system DOES NOT WORK! It does not account for many of the things that need to be looked at in handicapping.
For example, if a player wins all of his games he will be a 10, however this does not account for the fact that he won all of his games and allowed the opponents 0 points. This player should obviously be rated higher than a player that wins all of his games but allows the opponent an average of 6 points. The Q-Time system considers this, the “ball count average” system does not.
Acceptance. Consider this; The BCA has adopted the Q-Time handicap system as one of the methods available in its stats system. The BCA is the LARGEST pool league in the world. If it’s good enough for them ……..
Having said all of that there is a singular flaw that needs to be overcome. Divisions with teams that are too strong, or too weak tend to skew the handicap. There are several options open to us, the simplest seems to be to implement a CAP. that is to say to limit the number of handicap points a team can collect. This will likely be the method adopted.
We do want your input though, please leave comments. You have the option of being anonymous so please feel free to speak your mind.

If we were to have a 3 player 9-Ball league next season, how many of you would be willing to participate?
Looking at our current format, which we WILL NOT BE CHANGING, the question becomes when to play 9-Ball?
The available slots are: Possibly Monday night - opposite the 3 man 8-ball, played at Bad Beaver
Wednesday Night - opposite the 3 man Novice 8-ball also played at Bad Beaver
No format has been dreamed up yet, and won’t be until we know if there is sufficient interest to make it happen.
9-Ball seems to be waning in Saskatoon and we’d like to revitalize it if we can.
Please, give us your comments.
